OUR SERVICES

What is an apostille?

An apostille confirms the signature, official capacity, and seal or stamp on a public document, such as a birth certificate, to ensure it will be legally recognized in another country that is part of the Hague Convention.

What is the difference between an "apostille" and a "Certificate of Authentication"?

An apostille is for countries that are members of the Hague Convention. A Certificate of Authentication is for all other countries. You do not need to specify which one you need on the request form; the Arizona Secretary of State's office will issue the correct certification based on the destination country you provide.

Who can get an apostille in Arizona?

Any person, company, or professional service provider can request an apostille for a document issued in Arizona.

Can I get an apostille for documents from other states or the federal government?

No. The Arizona Secretary of State can only apostille documents that originated in Arizona. Federal documents, like an FBI background check, must be submitted to the U.S. Department of State for an apostille.
